It's been a busy year so far and it is difficult to get a lot of updates in, but we'd like to make sure that everyone is having a safe and happy Summer. To that end, we want to pass along some tips on staying safe during Hurricane Season, which starts on June 1st and runs through November 30.
1. Locate your evacuation zone (Click HERE for a link for Santa Rosa County evacuation zones) to determine if you will need to leave in the event of a hurricane or flood. ALL mobile home residents are advised to evacuate, regardless.
2. Make plans EARLY. Decide if you will go to a shelter or to a friend or relative's house. If you will need to go to a shelter, locate where they are ahead of time so you know where to go and find out what you will need to bring. If you have pets, you will have to make plans for those or go to a pet friendly shelter.
3. Make sure you have a battery-powered radio and plenty of spare batteries. Get a battery powered NOAA weather radio, if possible. If you have a smartphone, you can download one of many free apps to track the weather; however, make sure you have a spare battery bank or a solar charger. You might find, however, that your smartphone will probably not work, at least in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster.
4. If you have a traditional landline, make sure you have at least one corded phone available for use.
5. Make sure your street address is clearly marked on your home.
6. Gather hurricane supplies (extra medicine, first aid supplies, bottled water, etc.) in plastic totes EARLY and check them every so often to make sure you've got everything you need.
7. Have a plan and let everyone in your household know what the plan will be.
8. Santa Rosa County's Disaster Preparedness Guide is now available online. Get it HERE. They also usually have physical copies at their offices located at 4499 Pine Forest Road in Milton.

In other news, Mail Box Plus is no longer a Southern Linc dealer. This was a decision made by Southern Linc due to low interest in Southern Linc in our area. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but look forward to serving you in many other ways in the years to come.
